Smart Water Collaboration

Connecting expertise, research and operations

We collaborate with water utilities, universities, research centres, engineering firms and technology partners to turn real service needs into viable projects and solutions that can be validated in operation.

We bring field experience to identify opportunities, define requirements and coordinate solution integration. Our perspective covers water sources, treatment, pumping, networks, metering and customers, alongside governance, maintenance and digital transformation. Each organisation’s involvement is agreed according to its capabilities and the project objectives.

Three ways to collaborate

We contribute where we can add the most value

Collaboration can take the form of advisory services for a water utility, specialist participation in an engineering project or an international team working on applied research and technology development.

01

Advisory services for water utilities

We work with management and operational teams to identify improvements, prioritise investments and strengthen service management, particularly in Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean.

  • Institutional, technical and operational assessment.
  • Governance, investment priorities and roadmaps.
  • Operations, maintenance, assets and infrastructure.
  • Networks, water losses, metering and customer service.
  • Digital transformation with clear indicators and objectives.
02

Partnerships for major projects

From Spain, we participate with engineering firms, consultants, operators and integrators in international projects, contributing technical leadership and experience in water facilities and services.

  • Proposal preparation and scope definition.
  • Leadership and coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supervision, integration, testing and commissioning.
  • Connecting design with the operator’s needs.
03

Applied research and development

We seek to build teams with universities, research centres and water utilities. Smart Water Institute connects scientific and technological development with real operational requirements and conditions.

  • Smart Water Institute: field assessment, engineering requirements, coordination, integration and knowledge transfer.
  • Universities and research centres: research, models, algorithms and programming.
  • Water utilities: facilities, authorised data, process knowledge and operational validation.
  • Technology partners, when needed: instrumentation, equipment, communications and specialist support.

Our way of working

A clear process from the first conversation

We start with a specific need and agree on responsibilities and verifiable results. In R&D projects, we also define the research question, testing conditions and how the solution will be compared with current operations.

01 / LISTEN

Understand the context

We review facilities, the operational challenge, available data and improvement opportunities with those responsible for the service.

02 / DEFINE

Define the scope

We agree on objectives, responsibilities, deliverables, schedules and resources, together with data access permissions and conditions for using the results.

03 / IMPLEMENT

Work with the team

We coordinate development and integration. Where appropriate, we conduct a supervised pilot with the operator and agreed acceptance criteria.

04 / CONSOLIDATE

Transfer and measure

We compare results with the baseline, train the team and define the conditions for maintaining and expanding the solution.

Collaboration stages: assessment, planning, integration and results review

An integrated perspective

From field knowledge to validation in a plant or network

Field experience helps identify opportunities that a university can develop into research topics and a water utility can assess in its facilities. Collaboration brings together complementary capabilities: operational knowledge, scientific and technological development, and verification of results under real conditions.

Collaboration opportunities include AI-driven dynamic setpoints, initially for chlorination, water loss reduction, predictive maintenance and data integration. Each project requires measurable objectives, a comparison baseline and a continuity plan. Team composition, funding and agreements will be defined for each initiative.
